The orientation service
The orientation service is responsible for guiding users in the use of the library and assisting them in their search for references, providing them with all the conducive conditions for reading and research. It also provides statistics and information on the circulating documentary resources to the readers. In this regard, this service must have human elements with professional competence and sufficient knowledge to respond to assistance requests or any inquiries.
The missions of the service manager include:
- Managing the library temporarily in the absence of the central library curator.
- Representing the central library curator at university meetings in case of absence or unavailability.
- Representing the curator at national and international meetings, or locally in case of absence or unavailability.
Therefore, this service is responsible for:
- Approving the library’s liability discharge certificate.
- Granting licenses to use the services of other central libraries, implementing the principle of cooperation between university libraries.
- Monitoring the library’s equipment needs.
The tasks assigned to the personnel within the service at the central library level include :
- Updating the indexes of titles available for loan.
- Updating the inventory and annual inventory records of the documentary resources available for loan.
- Monitoring the progress of external or internal lending operations, from borrowing to return and organization.
- Guiding and training users in automated research.
