Carbon Emissions Reporting
At Oum El Bouaghi University, we are committed to transparency and accountability in our sustainability practices, including the measurement and reporting of our carbon emissions. We recognize the importance of understanding and managing our environmental impact, particularly in relation to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Here is how we approach carbon emissions reporting:
- Carbon Reporting Standards:
We are dedicated to following industry best practices and internationally recognized standards for measuring and reporting our carbon emissions.
Our university reports its carbon emissions in accordance with the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard, which is widely accepted as a robust framework for carbon accounting and reporting.
- GHG Protocol Corporate Standard:
The GHG Protocol Corporate Standard provides us with a comprehensive methodology to measure and report our GHG emissions across various operational scopes.
By adhering to this standard, we ensure that our emissions reporting aligns with established guidelines and enables meaningful comparisons with other organizations.
The GHG Protocol Corporate Standard helps us track our progress, set targets, and make informed decisions to mitigate our carbon footprint effectively.
- Transparent Reporting:
We are committed to transparency and regularly disclose our carbon emissions through annual sustainability reports or dedicated carbon footprint reports.
These reports provide a detailed breakdown of our emissions sources, including direct emissions from our operations (Scope 1), indirect emissions from purchased energy (Scope 2), and other indirect emissions related to activities such as commuting and waste management (Scope 3).
Our carbon reporting practices help us identify areas for improvement, track our performance over time, and engage with stakeholders on our sustainability journey.
- Continuous Improvement:
We continually strive to improve our carbon emissions reporting practices and stay updated on emerging standards and methodologies.
We actively monitor advancements in carbon accounting and reporting to ensure that our reporting remains accurate, relevant, and aligned with the latest industry developments.
Our commitment to continuous improvement allows us to enhance the integrity and transparency of our carbon emissions reporting.
By following the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and prioritizing transparent reporting, Oum El Bouaghi University demonstrates its dedication to managing and reducing its carbon emissions. We remain determined to minimize our environmental impact and contribute to a sustainable future for our campus and the larger community.
- CO2 emissions:
- Scope 1 and 2 emissions
Figure 01. Total Scope 1 and 2 emissions
Oum El Bouaghi University observed a reduction in its Total Scope 1 and 2 emissions between 2018 and 2022, declining from 1690.07 tCO2e to 1438.42 tCO2e, resulting in an estimated decrease rate of 14.89%. This significant reduction rate has guided the university’s commitment to continue curbing emissions, aligning with the national target set for the year 2035.
