University Policy on Energy Efficiency Standards for Renovations and New Builds
Policy for Adherence to Energy Efficiency Standards in New Buildings

The University of Oum El Bouaghi places strong emphasis on sustainability and the preservation of natural resources to foster a healthy and environmentally responsible learning environment.
Objectives:
- Ensure that all new buildings are designed and constructed according to the highest energy efficiency standards and incorporate modern environmental technologies.
- Promote the integration of renewable energy sources and energy-saving systems in the planning and construction of new university facilities.
- Raise awareness among staff and students through sensitization campaigns and educational programs about energy use, conservation, and sustainable practices.
- Continuously monitor and evaluate the performance of newly constructed buildings to maintain compliance with energy efficiency standards.
Principles:
- Sustainable Design and Construction: The University follows “green design” principles and sustainable infrastructure standards, employing eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient heating and cooling systems in new constructions.
- Renewable Energy Use: Whenever possible, the University integrates renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power into the design of new facilities.
- Energy-Saving Technologies: The University adopts advanced technologies such as LED lighting and smart temperature control systems to reduce electricity and heat consumption.
- Training and Awareness: Regular training sessions are offered to staff and students to highlight the importance of energy conservation and encourage sustainable habits both on campus and in daily life.
- Monitoring and Evaluation: The energy performance of new buildings is routinely reviewed to ensure compliance with efficiency standards, with corrective measures implemented when necessary.
Follow-up:
This policy seeks to strengthen environmental sustainability across the University of Oum El Bouaghi by applying energy efficiency principles in the design, construction, and operation of university facilities. The Vice-Rectorate for Development, Vision, and Guidance is responsible for overseeing the implementation and follow-up of this policy (link).
Implementation Example – Energy Efficiency in New Buildings:
In recent years, the University of Oum El Bouaghi has constructed several new buildings in full compliance with energy efficiency standards. Among these is the Institute of Sciences and Techniques for Physical and Sports Activities
