Accessible Childcare Facilities for Students

In Algeria, public universities, including the University of Oum El Bouaghi, operate under the national framework established by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, which promotes the inclusion and support of female students, particularly recent mothers, to ensure equal access to education.

While there are no fully institutionalized childcare centers directly managed by most public universities in Algeria, including Oum El Bouaghi, the university facilitates access to childcare services through collaboration with local community nurseries and public childcare centers located near the campus. These arrangements enable student mothers to balance their family responsibilities and academic studies more effectively.

Moreover, the university’s social services and sub-directorate of activities work jointly to assist student mothers by:

  • Providing flexible study schedules and exam accommodations for recent mothers.
  • Offering temporary support and guidance to help them reintegrate into their academic programs after maternity leave.
  • Cooperating with local authorities and associations to promote accessible and affordable childcare solutions near the university.

This approach is consistent with the principles of Law No. 90-11 (Labor Relations Law) and Law No. 06-03 (General Public Service Basic Law), which safeguard maternity rights and promote family support. It also aligns with Article 68 of the 2020 Algerian Constitution, guaranteeing equal access to education without discrimination and ensuring the protection of women’s rights in the educational environment.

Through these efforts, the University of Oum El Bouaghi demonstrates its commitment to inclusion, gender equality, and educational accessibility by supporting young mothers in pursuing their academic goals.
