University-Organized Events for Knowledge Transfer to Local Farmers and Food Producers

• This 1st National Seminar titled “By-products of the Agri-Food Industry: Valorization and Innovation (SPIAVI)”

University of Oum El Bouaghi organized a scientific event aimed at benefiting farmers and local, regional, and national food producers. The seminar, led by university experts, focuses on the valorization and innovation of by-products from the agri-food industry. It seeks to develop food products, including agricultural by-products, and invest them in fields such as food (for human or animal consumption), health, and even cosmetics.

The event also aims to create a platform for sharing scientific expertise between universities, researchers, research centers, the agri-food industry, and the industrial sector. The seminar program includes scientific conferences, oral presentations, posters, and innovative workshops to promote the use of by-products from the innovative food industry.

This 1st National Seminar titled “By-products of the Agri-Food Industry: Valorization and Innovation (SPIAVI)” is scheduled to take place on 30th & 31st October 2023. It is organized by the Institute of Technical and Applied Sciences (ISTA) – Ain M’lila, with Dr. Camélia Mosbah as the president of the seminar and Dr. Nadira Hamadouche as vice-president. The event covers themes such as:

  • Valorization of by-products of the agri-food industries in Algeria.
  • Entrepreneurship in the agri-food sector and startup management.
  • Health, economic, and environmental impact.
  • Transformation and innovation of agri-food products.
  • Student Visits to Document the Collaboration between the University and Local Partners in the Field of Nutrition

University of Oum El Bouaghi, actively organizes events to connect local farmers and food producers with academic knowledge. One of the key initiatives is the organization of field visits for students to document and explore the collaboration between the university and local partners, particularly in the field of nutrition. These visits provide an opportunity for students to engage with farmers and food producers, facilitating the transfer of knowledge and the sharing of best practices in agriculture and food production. Additionally, the university regularly holds seminars and workshops that foster innovation and knowledge exchange between academics, researchers, and local stakeholders in the agri-food sector.

For example, through its Department of Bioengineering and Institute of Technical and Applied Sciences (ISTA), the university has hosted multiple seminars, such as the recent National Seminar on By-products of the Agri-Food Industry, aimed at promoting sustainable practices and entrepreneurship in the local agricultural community.
