University Initiatives on Raising Awareness about Overfishing and Destructive Fishing Practices

The University of Oum El Bouaghi offers educational outreach activities for local and national communities to raise awareness about overfishing, illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, and destructive fishing practices through several research and educational initiatives.

The university has two laboratories dedicated to this purpose:

  • Functional Ecology & Environment Laboratory: This laboratory focuses on studying ecosystems and their functions, including human impacts such as overfishing on marine and freshwater environments. The lab organizes workshops, seminars, and awareness campaigns to educate the community about environmental threats related to overfishing.

Sustainable Development and Environmental Protection Laboratory: This lab works on promoting sustainable development and environmental protection concepts. It engages in activities aimed at raising awareness about sustainable fishing practices and avoiding harmful practices that damage aquatic environments.
