Team 2: IMALEX

Imagery and CompIex Systems

Images play a very important role in simulation, modeling, understanding, and studying complex systems.

This team is primarily interested in the image and its implications in complex systems on both static and dynamic levels. They conduct research in any field of imaging where the image can be an important factor for the system. More specifically, they focus on complex systems where the image holds significance. From simple processing to semantic analysis, the team seeks solutions to problems posed in imaging as a subsystem or independent system (whether it involves complex images in terms of their structure or content).

Dynamic imaging field occupies a central position in modern research. On the one hand, it has implications in several application domains such as medical imaging, robotics, the military domain, and others. On the other hand, it is an open research area where several methods require innovation and further enhancement.

Objectives

The members of team focus on researching and developing complex systems; analyzing images as an important constituent element of certain complex systems in order to extract useful information for analysis and system exploitation purposes , primarily utilizing artificial intelligence tools such as neural networks, bio-inspired systems, multi-agent systems, genetic algorithms, ant colony optimization, and so on.

Scientific Foundations

The team generally works on the following themes, but they can be extended to other domains involving complex systems:

  • Image analysis,
  • Image semantics,
  • 3D imaging,
  • Image encryption,
  • Image compression,
  • Image indexing,
  • Pattern recognition,
  • Image synthesis,
  • Motion detection,
  • Motion estimation,
  • Target tracking,
  • Video surveillance,
  • Analysis of video sequences.
