Scientific Description of The Team’s Research Program
Research focuses on the study of the relationships between the biodiversity of a compartment or a network of compartments linked by trophic interactions and the functioning of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.
This research reflects society’s growing concern about the unprecedented erosion of biodiversity.
The team develops fundamental research to understand how biodiversity and the complexity of food webs regulate the flow of materials in the ecosystem. It also offers applications of its results in the form of bioindication tools for the functional integrity of ecosystems and bioremediation techniques.
The vocation of the team is to study the biodiversity-functioning relationship in a wide variety of aquatic and terrestrial systems in order to test the generality of the discoveries resulting from pioneering studies carried out most often in terrestrial ecosystems and to develop new theories specific to aquatic environments by considering biodiversity as a cause and a consequence.
