Non-Discrimination Policy – International Dimension

Purpose and Scope:

This policy aims to promote women’s rights and gender equality in all aspects of university and community life at the University of Oum El Bouaghi. This policy is based on the United Nations Convention decrying all forms of discrimination against women, which was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1979.

Key Principles:

The main principles of the non-discrimination policy are specified in the internal regulations of the universities and include the following:

  • Gender Equality: Equal opportunities and gender equality in education, employment, and political participation must be provided for all, regardless of their gender.
  • Non-Discrimination: No one should be held accountable for their behavior or subjected to any discriminatory actions based on their gender.
  • Combating Violence Against Women or (GBV: Gender-based Violence): All forms of sexist abuses such as sexual assault and sexual harassment must be fought using all available legal means.

Actions:

  • Promoting gender equality in relation to education, training, and job opportunities.
  • Providing training and raising awareness among the members of the university community on gender equality and discrimination issues.
  • Establishing mechanisms for reporting cases of harassment or sexual violence while ensuring confidentiality and support for victims.
  • Supporting and hailing women’s effective participation in academic, administrative, and cultural activities.
  • Reviewing university laws and internal regulations to ensure the absence of any gender-based discrimination and correcting any existing legislation that constitutes discrimination.

Monitoring:

This policy is periodically reviewed to ensure its effective implementation. The responsibility for monitoring this policy falls under the Committee of Ethics functioning under the auspices of the university, and its principles are continuously updated in line with international trends.
