Research axis: Strengthening of Structures and Modeling

Goals :

Currently in our country, reinforced concrete structures are often made with low to medium quality concrete (use of inadequate raw materials, poor formulations and implementation). Also, in the future, it will be necessary to develop repair techniques allowing existing structures to be adapted to modern paraseismic design, by increasing the resistance and ductility for certain elements or sections of structures.

All this will lead one day or another, the country to engage in a vast campaign of restoration and repair of reinforced concrete structures.

For this, there are several reinforcement techniques that can be classified into several categories:

1. Reinforcement by adding new construction elements;

2. Improvement of the resistance of the cross-section of the constructive elements;

3. Confinement reinforcement using fiber reinforced polymers. Etc.

In the case of post-beam structures (very widespread systems in our country), the technique of containment by reinforced concrete lining has been widely used. The limitations of this system are:

• the minimum thickness of the coating which is around 10cm (06cm using plasticizing additives),

• the additional longitudinal and transverse reinforcement which must be dense to have the desired confinement,

• the lead time, which remains significant.

The containment of elements by lining in composite materials, which is experiencing remarkable development throughout the world, can remedy all the disadvantages of reinforced concrete lining. This is our main objective.
