The Institute of Management of Urban Techniques of the University of LAARBI BEN M’HIDI OUM EL BOUAGHI has since 2001 the training of engineering degrees and diploma of Applied University Studies (DEUA).
The students come from 27 wilayas in Algeria and 17 wilayas after the opening of the GTU of the University of Constantine. This is a great asset for Larbi Ben M’hidi University. This has favored the birth of a real mix between the different Algerian cultures. As a result, the number of permanent teachers specializing in the field of GTU is constantly increasing. It has reached the number of 57 including a teacher, four A lecturers, 31 assistant teachers A and 21 assistant teachers B.
During the 2009/2010 academic year, the development program was created while the geology and architecture programs were launched during the 2010/2011 academic year.
In 2013 the Institute of Management of Urban Engineering was divided into two entities, the GTU Institute and the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Architecture, (Executive Decree No. 13-164 of April 15, 2013, creation of the University of Oum El Bouaghi).
In addition, this institute since its inception has really played an important role in bringing local and regional institutions closer to the university through students in search of data and documentation. In addition, the local population has become very aware of the existence of this university space following students’ fieldwork (interviews with residents, surveys of built and non-built areas, photography, etc.).
Nature of the training:
Since its creation in 2001, the Urban Technology Management Institute has been training urban management engineers and urban planning graduates (LMD) since 2008/2009.
At this stage, the teaching within the department (long cycle) ensures the student, who is trained to perform tasks in the technical services related to urban planning and construction, the following objectives:
– Reading and interpretation of plans related to construction and equipment of buildings and VRD.
– Knowledge of the principles of projection, management and operation of the various networks (water, electricity, internal installations, sanitation …) the safety rules concerning buildings and various works and know how to interpret them.
– The organization, planning and coordination of the equipment works of the municipality.
The engineer in GTU must also have a general education combined with a solid professional competence versatile both practical and theoretical in order to be able to inform themselves, to choose, to decide and finally to coordinate between the different urban actors.
Thus, the job opportunities are those of coordinator in a very wide range of areas of urban techniques, exercises in the direct productive system (study and monitoring of urban projects), also at the interface of techniques and services (local authorities, organizations such as the DUC, design offices for architecture, town planning and planning and environmental inspections).
